"The whimsical architecture offers 2 peaked rooves, covered with TWO types of MOSSES, twisty VINE and sided with pretty SYCAMORE BARK. A whimsical CERAMIC MUSHROOM CHIMNEY sprouts from the roof. The larger windows have bumpy TWIG GRIDS while smaller windows are JEWELED. Polished AGATE slice STAIRS with GNARLY VINE RAILING lead up to the darling HAND-PAINTED DOOR which is embellished with SPARKLY JEWELRY and hardware. (coordinating with the home's tiny window decor!) Around the back is a tiny weathered PICKET FENCE section and a beautiful jeweled WINDCHIME hanging by the window. Additional florals, realistic faux MUSHROOMS and BERRIES bring this miniature structure's details to life. THIS HOME IS LIGHTED and looks quite enchanting as the light spills from all of the window openings. A protective coat of polyurethane has been added for protection AND to enhance the bark/twig surfaces."

"I did not set out with a particular scale in mind when I designed this, but would guess that it is about 1/24th scale. It measures appx. 13" all around, INCLUDING the round footed base, but not protruding florals. Technically, it is not really a dollhouse since the inside is NOT accessible but it is HOLLOW. Doors and windows do not actually open."

"This home would look great in a GARDEN or PORCH, however, I would not expose it to harsh weather and would keep it in a protected area for a longer life. The included low-watt bulb with long cord is not rated for outdoors, but could EASILY be replaced through an access hole."

"True story: I was setting up some of the stuff in their kitchen and pulling out what food I would be using for the scene, and then my entire house was permeated by the smell of baking brownies or chocolate chip cookies. I wasn’t baking anything at all though! Yep, I had a Fae encounter, and they were quite clear about who was waiting to inhabit the house. In fact, they were super excited for me to hurry up and finish it! Needless to say, this house will never belong to me but, that’s just fine by me. Always happy to oblige the Fae folk!"

"The Sugar Fae are also fine makers of Fairy Berry Wine whose berries grow wild only in certain areas of the Enchanted Forest. Sweet and intoxicating as they may be, Fairy Berries are poisonous to humans and should never be eaten by us. "In a sunny glade in the forest of the Woodshire Fairies, the Herbalist carefully prepares herbal remedies and potions. Enchanted sunlight pours through the sky light in the ceiling, drying the herbs hanging from the rafters. Rare, special herbs are hung on the drying rack in front of the large picture window, where they gather nutrients and magic from the rays of the moon and the sun..."

"Inside the Cottage, there is a tiny table and bench where the Herbalist prepares his herbal remedies and potions in an herb-filled bowl and basket. Rafters loaded with drying herbs take in the sun from the sky light in the ceiling. Shelves full of scrolls, potion bottles, and herbs line the wall on either side of the faux stained glass window. A drying room off to the side of the main room is brightly lit by a large picture window where herbs fill a drying rack, taking in the rays of the sun and the moon."

"In the enchanted realm of the Woodshire Fairies, it takes many years of study to become a Scribe. The responsibilities bestowed upon one worthy of this distinguished title must carefully transcribe the literature of the Woodshire Fairies upon Fine Parchment scrolls and within finely bound books which are to be preserved through the eternities. To this end, the Woodshire Scribe is given a special cottage in which to work and store these precious tomes..."

"Inside the Cottage, there is a tiny desk and chair illuminated by a 'stained glass' window and a crystal lantern (these do not actually light). You can see by the runick writing upon the scroll on the desk that the Woodshire Scribe has been hard at work. Fine Parchment scrolls fill a basket and a tall bookcase in the corner...more scrolls litter the floor. A tiny reproduction of 'The Captured Unicorn' from the Unicorn Tapestry collection hangs over the staircase."

Midnight in the Secret Garden ~ Christina Pardy

This impressive structure by Christina Pardy is based on an old Medieval walled town in Germany. It’s a Tower, with a walkway on one side of the wall, and a garden with a water fountain on the other side. The Tower is three floors; dungeon, middle floor landing, and the lookout area. An archway on the ground level is the entry into the garden

All of the faux stonework and shingles are hand-carved, each individually out of Creative Paperclay® and hand painted and aged. There are real glass tile in the fountain and raised patio area. The structure is fully electrified from original torches on the walls, to the blue neon-like light that shines from under the eves, archways, and inside of the water fountain. This blue light produces moonlight like shine in the dark. The moon dial and the trunk-pedestal it’s on also glows blue from within.

It has also won an award for first place at the "Hand Crafted's of Miniatures Show" in Braintree, Massachusetts of October 2006. It has also been featured on the cover of the October 2007 edition of Dollhouse Miniatures magazine, with a few page write-up and tutorial inside.

Edger Allen Poe ~ Pat Benedict

"In honor of Edger Allen Poe's 160th Anniversary of his death October 7, 1849, I created this 12" miniature tree named Nevermore. Poe, the Ravens and skulls are all hand sculpted and painted by me, Halloween artist Pat Benedict. I also created a small Cognac bottle and three red roses in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Poe Toasters."

"Since 1949, on the night of the anniversary of Poe's birth, a mysterious stranger has entered this cemetery and left as tribute a partial bottle of cognac and three roses on Poe's grave. The identity of the stranger, referred to affectionately as the Poe Toaster, is unknown. The significance of cognac is uncertain as it does not feature in Poe's works as would, for example, amontillado. The presumption for the three roses is that it represents the three persons whose remains are beneath the monument: Poe, his mother-in-law (Maria Clemm) and his wife Virginia. The 3-cent stamp was issued in 1949, the one-hundredth anniversary of Poe's death. The portrait was based on the engraving by F. T. Stuart."

Titania's Palace ~ Sir Neville Wilkinson

Titania's Palace was constructed by the English painter and officer Sir Neville Wilkinson from 1907 to 1922.

Sir Wilkinson's daughter Gwendolyn claimed to have seen a fairy running under the roots of a tree, in the woods beside their home at Mount Merrion House. She was convinced that they lived in holes in the ground and deserved to have a fine house in which to live instead!

The palace consists of 18 rooms and salons, which contain hand-carved mahogany furniture. There are 3000 tiny works of art and miniatures from around the world on display inside the palace. The palace used to be displayed at Legoland, Denmark, but has found a new home in Egeskov Castle in Denmark now.

There is a miniature replica of Titania's Palace called Tara's Palace that is on display in Malahide.

Danish children's book author Shane Brox guides you through one of the most beautiful dollhouse palaces in the world; Titania's Palace. It was the name given to an intricately constructed edifice created by British peer Sir Nevile Wilkinson as a dwelling place for the Fairy Queen Titania, inspired by his small daughter Guendolen's imagination. The Palace, which includes more than 3,000 pieces of miniature furniture and treasures, took almost 30 years to complete and was officially inaugurated by Queen Mary in 1922. It was exhibited throughout the world and raised the equivalent of 60 million danish kroner for the benefit of deprived and handicapped children, before it was sold by Guendolen in the late 60's. As her father, she had a good heart too and the entire sales of the palace was donated to a children's home. Today the palace can be visited at Egeskov castle in Denmark.

Colleen Moore's Fairy Castle ~ Horace Jackson

Colleen Moore was always fascinated by dolls and doll houses. She owned several elaborate doll houses as a child, but later in life her father, Charles Morrison, suggested that she should pursue her passion for miniatures and doll houses by creating the "doll house" of her dreams. Her position as one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood gave her the resources to produce a "Fairy Castle" of fantastic proportions.

Begining in 1928, Moore enlisted the help of many talented professionals to help her realize her vision. Horace Jackson was an architect and set designer who worked for First National Studios. Jackson created the floor plan and layout of the castle with this basic idea, "The architecture must have no sense of reality. We must invent a structure that is everybody's conception of an enchanted castle." Moore also enlisted the help of art director and interior designer Harold Grieve. Grieve had designed the interiors for Moore's real-life mansion, so he was a natural to create the interiors of her fantasy castle. By 1935 over 700 individuals had lent their expertise including surgical instrument lighting specialists, Beverly Hills jewelers and Chinese jade craftsmen. The price tag for this 8'7" x 8'2" x 7'7" foot palace containing over 2000 miniatures was nearly $500,000.

"A serendipitous meeting of Rugger Martin and visiting American artist, Roger Brinson, at the Head of the River Pub during Eights Week led to the discovery of Penelope Fielding's letters to her sister, Delphinia Warne. The letters promised to provide enticing clues to the location of a Faery House in the heart of the Great Dixter grounds. The letters had been spotted by Ms. Kagan-Moore, curator, while unpacking a vintage steamer trunk donated to The Great American Dollhouse Museum earlier that year. The letters were sent on to the Martin brothers. Following authentication by Legos, design on the Lessor Dixter Manor began."

Can you believe this is made out of a real mushroom? There is nothing conventional about this one-of-a-kind driftwood dollhouse. Here is a tour of the dollhouse given by the artist herself:

"This OOAK faerie house was made entirely from natural sources. The house consists of a thick wooden floor, large driftwood as a support for the second floor; the upstairs floor is a GIGANTIC REAL mushroom that has been properly dried and preserved. The roof is made of individual pine cone shingles. The front of the house was constructed over the same drift wood that supports the second floor and walls. The walls are a mix of meticulously braided twigs, snake skins, tree roots, dried petals, crushed glass, tiny logs, moss, lichens, dried cactus skeletons, and many others. For the door, used an antique jewelry box lid that has a metal design of roses and butterflies. And of course, a snail door knob. Two seashells hold mini lights that light the doorway."

"The bedroom. There you will find a dresser that was made with old barn wood, a little perfume sea shell sits on top of it, and a broken mirror as well. Her bed was rustically made with petals, moss, and sea shells adorning it. In a similar way I made a nightstand next to the bed. There is a wooden chair next to a stairway that leads to a loft. There is a mushroom as a ceiling and a hanging sea shell light.
"The kitchen and it is probably my favorite. A loofah wall divides this room. There are a few shelves on the wall with sea shell tea pots, acorn bowls, and a sea shell picture. A wooden stove with a pipe is in the corner. And just like the bathroom there is a sea shell sink. A little broom rests in the corner. This room is also lighted the same way."
"This is the room is the living room. The floors are skeleton leaves, topped with rocks and moss. I used loofah as a dry wall. The table is a real mushroom that was dried and sealed. Two wooden shelves are against the wall holding precious stone enchanted books. There is also a sea shell light fixture.
"Next to the bedroom is her bathroom. A cactus leaf serves as the wall. A sea shell sink with tiny snail knobs and a branch as a faucet and a little stone serving as soap all adorn the room. There is a shower with tiny sea shell knobs, rock soaps, and skeleton leaf as a rug. A resting chair sits in the corner with a sea shell light above."

Hallow Manor ~ S. Mignoli

Welcome to a tour of Hallow Manor by my favorite Halloween Dollhouse Artist S. Mignoli. The house has a loft overlooking the living room, with a skeleton in a casket and a working flickering tea light. The kitchen features the artist's hand-sculpted miniature witch tea service and "Thing," the hand in the box. The Ghost Doll is a Re-Dead, not to be confused with Re-Born, as the artist likes to point out! My favorite was the weathered mural wallpaper and the cat hanging from the tree branch greeting the trick-or-treaters.

This enchanting fairy house by artist Julie McLaughlin sold for over $1000 on eBay. So, here it is, in the artist's own words, a tour of Lily Cottage:

"This OOAK (One of a Kind) SOLID WOOD fairy home features an enchanting exterior with fabulously artsy DRIFTWOOD TRIM, spanish moss ROOF, Diamond GRID windows, VINE trim and personality galore! The front door has been painted with a 3 step paint technique and decorated with VINTAGE JEWELRY findings.The driftwood pieces I found as is and were rarely altered or cut, forming into interesting window casings, roof and other structural elements, letting their natural form determine their placement. Lush green florals and VERY REALISTIC LILIES tower over the structure while BABY faux MUSHROOMS sprout from the seed pod WINDOW BOXES. A mossy PLANTER filled with mushrooms and florals welcome fairy guests to the quaint PORCH.

"This home features 3 rooms and measures appx. 20" tall, 18" wide and 16" deep. A perfect cottage size dollhouse if space is an issue.The interior has an antiqued-stained wall color technique (as does the exterior), several inset tiny green GLASS PORT HOLE WINDOWS (which look great when light shines through) and a fabulous staircase connecting both floors. The kitchen and living room have working floral ceiling chandeliers, lit by tiny flickering LED lights. Miniature florals and greenery drape from window casings, softening the lines, making a cozy retreat for any fairy."

Spellweaver Witch's Shop ~ Lisa Kline

For all Halloween mini-lovers out there, I present the Spellweaver Witch's Shop by artist Lisa Kline. My most favorite thing among many is the little sign that hangs outside, advertising the List of Services ranging from fixing fairy wings to hex removal! So, in the words of the artist herself, a tour of the Spellweaver Witch's Shop...

Well known throughout the Enchanted Woods 'Spellweavers' is for sale! Just in time for the Halloween Season!!

The shop was established in 1857 and has been a favorite source of supplies and books for Witches, Wizards, Sorcerers and Village healers. The shop will come with all you see here. Plenty of room to add much more , but this will certainly get you started. The current Witch (taking a rest upstairs after a hard day over the Cauldron) comes along with the shop.

Downstairs there is a shop counter with cash register. Sign on counter gives the payment accepted. 'All major cards accepted, Also Cash, Pearls, Gold, Magic Beans, Goats and Toads.'

Next we have a Bookcase filled with spellbooks and charts, and a tub of Very hard to gather 'Vulture Eggs', also a barrel of Mugwort sold in bulk. A shelf filled with Alter Cloth fabric, Crystal balls and Skulls. (Every work-bench needs at least one skull).

In the center of the shop is a Reading Table complete with Crystal Ball and tarot Cards. Readings are usually made around Midnight.

A lovely corner unit holds Spell charts, Witch-fired Spell scrolls, Herbs and potions. Under the window is a ceramic stand Holding Besoms. They have been fully charged under a full moon and are a very economical form of travel, 'Spell-Powered.' A little shop bell will let you know if anyone comes in the shop, Invisible or slithering under the door.

Oh Looks like there are a few little guys on the Porch now waiting for the shop to open. I imagine they are looking for a Hex-Breaking spell.

Upstairs we have a bed, dresser and Gargoyle torch.

There is a sign on the side that reads 'Services Listed -- Fairy-wings Fixed, Wands Polished, Broom Cleaning, Forest Animal Care, Hex Removal, Elves Made Visible, Trolls transformed.'

"This enchanting One Of A Kind fairy home is made from SOLID WOOD with a textural, 4 step paint and plastered exterior with natural BARK siding and twisty GRAPEVINE trim. A HAND-CARVED TREE SPIRIT embellishes the front suggesting the magic within. Window and door overhangs are made with CORK BARK and FUNGI. The wooden beam doors have antique CARVED white rosette doorknobs from old jewelry findings. The rounded windows are carved wood in a HONEYCOMB pattern. I shingled the roof with cedar shakes in a topsy-turvey pattern for whimsy, with several coats of stain and paint to acquire an aged look. ORB-topped spires sprout from each roof. Fantasy floral silk PASSION FLOWER vines climb the roof tops and determined my color choices for furnishings and decor. This home is intricately detailed on all four sides with many touches to be discovered!

"The 3 ROOM interior has plastered walls, faux stone floors and twig beam ceilings. All furniture is moveable with the exception of SHELVES, LIGHT FIXTURES, MINIS attached to furniture and MICRO HAND-PAINTED PICTURES.

"The decor is very dreamy and feminine in tones of white and green, with a few sparkly rhinestones and vintage laces, yet remains rustic, based on what a fairy could utilize in nature. Tiny LIGHT FIXTURES add a touch of TWINKLING AMBER LIGHT to several areas, enhancing the fantasy feeling........."

Minster Lovell Faery Dollhouse ~ Melissa Chaple

Completed in March of 2008, the Minster Lovell Faery Dollhouse is the second Enchanted Woodland Faery Dollhouse Assemblage designed and constructed by Melissa Chaple based upon the descriptions of Elizabeth Bates, who first discovered the original house in the summer of 1917. Unlike the Cottington Faeiries discovered the same summer in Yorkshire, Elizabeth’s discovery has remained a secret until her diary and box of artifacts and photographs were found and listed in an eBay auction.

The miniature fairy house is built to a 1:12 inch scale set in the real world of the small English village of Minister Lovell on the banks of the River Windrush.The river rock base if 18” by 29” and the house stands 29” including attached fallen branch. All furniture (with exception of harp) is hand carved and constructed. Included with the house are the original manuscript diary of 12 year old Elizabeth Bates who first found the original fairy house, her original Eveready flashlight and evidence collected on her Faery Quest.

Construction details:

The house is hand cut and hand built of ¼” high grade plywood inspired by the Glencroft House by Greenleaf.

All stone work is individually applied river rock or sandstone, embellished with natural and artificial moss. Stone work is aged with thin layers of high grade acrylic paint.Stone floors are handmade and aged.

All wood trim is aged and hand applied. Opening window casements contain from 20 to 28 individually fitted pieces of hand cut wood

Stained glass windows feature the work of Ida Rentoul Ostwaithe, Australian artist of the period and other historic windows.

Furniture is hand carved, sculpted and constructed by the artist for this house.

The hand dressed dolls representing the actually fairies found by Miss Bates are Heidi Ott articulated dollhouse dolls dressed in natural fabrics and leathers embellished with micro beading.

The house is fully lit by lamps, flickering fireplaces and hanging fixtures.

All four rooms of the house are extensively decorated with mosses, dried flowers and berries with hidden pewter sculptures, tiny bottles and jars of crystal and beads.

Enchanting "Bramblemyr Cottage" was designed and constructed by an experienced miniaturist using all new materials enhanced by natural dried flowers, mosses and grasses. This English cottage is a tribute to summers spent in Oxfordshire meadows. A fairy house is an unusual challenge--a small house in one inch scale as if built by fae folk in a big world using natural elements.

The house and gardens were designed for display of OOAK sculpted fairies who are usually not articulated, caught in a single pose. Therefore, the single room medieval construction of each floor offers plenty of room for display of your special collection against a stunning, earthy backdrop of natural flowers and mosses. Perfect for photo storyboarding. The furniture (window seats, benches, bed, wide chair) was designed to be broad enough for kneeling and/or reclining fairies to be posed effectively.
